Hotohori

It made perfect sense for me to cosplay this bishounen of bishounen. First of all, he's voiced by Koyasu Takehito, second, I adore the character and third there was a huge Fushigi Yuugi group going down for AX '01 that I was part of. =D Michiru semi-did Nuriko and Jey was Tamahome to boot XD! This costume is also to be worn to Summer Komiket '01 (sans sword cause it didn't fit in my suitcase ;_;). Anyway, I really enjoyed this costume, and I want to wear it some more especially when Michi gets her Nuriko costume done. =D

Hotohori
Rawr. This costume was a bitch to make and I dunno, I wasn't as happy with it as I could have been. I bought several patterns from JoAnns during their annual sale to construct the oversmock and the red Chinese shirt underneath. The red shirt was almost the exact pattern and I just tappered the sleeves and changed the collar a bit (and added a pink inside fold). The white smock gave me days of trouble, mainly cause I didn't really follow the pattern at all. Oh well, it got fixed to presentableness for AX. =D Then I made the purple skirts, which Jey kindly sewed on a cording around them so I could tie them around my waist and hide the cord under my red sash (which he also made! =D) instead of having to pin the purple parts in place. He also constructed the golden armor plates on the sides for me. We call it "Hip armour". I won't elaborate his technique for creating the armor, but it was made from two two-liter Coke bottles and a Priority Mail box. ^_^; My good friend Makkura created the sword for me (after my design) and I painted it and laquered it etc prior. It's got some pretty faux jewels and lame things on it as well. =D I love it. The gold belt buckle is the bottom of a plastic cup spray painted gold with safety pins hot glued to the undersides to pin it on. Heh. The swords scabbard was made of fabric dipped in fabric stiffener and wrapped around the sword. I also used some strange ribon/cording to make the "belt" part that kept slipping down my hips. ^_^;;;; Uuuuh, what else? The pants I borrowed from an old Ranma costume I had, but they worked well. The boots were lame and look kinda bad with the costume, but they're my Folken boots and I didn't bring any others with me. The wig I bought for $40 from Amphigory.com. It's really perfect. I had to cut the bangs into it myself and stlye it, but it fits very nicely.
Incase you're wondering the costume is from episodes 21 and 22 when Hotohori locks Miaka in her room and goes out to fight Evil Tamahome. I decided to do this costume cause it looked fairly simple (compared to his robes @_@) and because he just looks so cool and deadly in those episodes (and I hate Tamahome and he skewed him in those episodes . . . ^^). Anyway, everyone liked the costume, although not everyone knew who I was. Most people were more impressed with the sword (that it was an actual sword and not a hilt and scabbard) and the hip armor. I hope to wear this costume more later when Michiru gets her Nuriko costume fixed up. ^^;
If you have any pictures of me in this costume, please send them to me! I should have many more up later. Thanks!!!!!
