This little monkey cel was such a surprise find at Nakano Broadway, in Tokyo January 2020. How he got there, separated from other Unico cels, is beyond me! I gasped when I saw him and even though I thought he was a bit over priced, I had to have him. I never dreamed I'd find a cel of one of the woodland creatures from this movie unless one of the main characters was also featured.
This is the introduction of this sweet little monkey character. The evil Baron is riding through the forest late at night, turning berries into poison. The smiling little monkey crawls down a branch to get one but is then attacked by squirrels that have already consumed some of the evil berries. The monkey falls and is hurt.
It's actually quite a pivotal scene, as later Unico finds the injured monkey and heals him, and because of that kindness, later the monkey and his monkey friends help Unico, Chao and Akuma-kun escape a lava river! What a chain of events. It's a little thread running through the movie that I've always loved, and I'm so happy to add the little monkey to my gallery. How I wish I had the atmospheric tree branch background to go with him!
